This professional development course helps early childhood educators understand the ethical responsibilities connected to their work with children, families, colleagues, employers, and the profession. Participants will examine professional boundaries, confidentiality, integrity, decision-making, accountability, and appropriate responses to ethical concerns.

Course Description
Participants will examine the professional responsibilities expected of early childhood educators. The course addresses ethical behavior, confidentiality, professional boundaries, respectful communication, workplace accountability, conflicts of interest, documentation, child protection, responsible use of technology, and procedures for responding to suspected misconduct.

A Five-Step Process for Professional Decisions
When a situation is unclear, educators should slow down, gather information, review expectations, consider the impact, and act responsibly.
Identify
Clearly identify the concern, conflict, or professional responsibility involved.
Gather
Collect accurate information without assumptions, gossip, exaggeration, or personal bias.
Review
Review applicable policies, procedures, ethical principles, and professional expectations.
Consider
Consider how each possible action may affect children, families, colleagues, and the program.
Act
Choose the most responsible action, seek guidance when needed, and document important steps.
